Grant Request Application and Guidelines

The Board of Directors review requests for funding twice a year. The scheduled review meetings are on the second Tuesday of May and September. The annual meeting for the Foundation Board of Directors is held on the second Tuesday of November.

Requests for funding must be received at the Foundation office no later than the close of business (5:00 p.m) on April 1st and August 1st, or the preceding Friday should the 1st occur on a weekend.

The Board of Directors will not review a list of projects, then select one that is appealing. When submitting a request, be specific in the nature of the request and the amount requested. Please note that the amount being requested should not exceed $50,000.00.

The Board of Directors may adopt grant-making programs or make pledges to various organizations that will not exceed five years.

Precedence is given to organizations situated within or whose activities are concentrated in, first, southwestern Pennsylvania, then northern West Virginia, northern Maryland, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and, lastly, the United States.

The Application:

The following Grant Request Application contains the necessary information, which is required for our review process. All applications must include the Summary form with the required accompanying documents.

All proposals should be submitted on 8.5 x 11 paper and be unbound. Please feel free to provide supportive material concerning your organization.

Eligibility:

Precedence is given to organizations situated within or whose activities are concentrated in, first, southwestern Pennsylvania, then northern West Virginia, northern Maryland, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and, lastly, the United States.

Organizations that are not classified as a “Public Charity” under the provisions of Section 501 (c) (3) or similar tax-exemption provisions by the Internal Revenue Service are not eligible for support. Refer also to the Limitations and Restrictions on the next page.

Amount of Request:

The amount being requested should not exceed $50,000.00.

Selection Process:

All requests are reviewed by the Board of Directors using a preliminary screening method. A copy of the Grant Request Summary (found in the Grant Request Application) is provided to each Director on a per month basis. If there is not adequate interest, the request is automatically declined and the organization is notified. Those organizations whose request is reviewed at the Board meeting, will be notified within two weeks of that meeting to inform them of the Board's decision.

Final Report:

A final follow-up report must be submitted at the conclusion of the grant describing the outcome and detailing the grant expenditures.

Category Definitions:

The Snee-Reinhardt Charitable Foundation has set up several areas of concern comprised of specific intentions, which are of strong interest to the Board of Directors. Because proposals can overlap into more than one category, the Directors have chosen what category best describes the awarded grant.

Arts/Culture: Performing arts, humanities, media and communications, multipurpose museums, public broadcasting, and historical preservations.

Education: Promotional programs for elementary, secondary and vocational systems, colleges/universities, graduate programs, adult continuing education and multipurpose libraries.

Environmental: Support of natural resources, beautification programs, pollution control, environmental education, and horticultural/botanical programs.

Health/Medical: Rural health care, crisis intervention, special programs in health centers, and prevention/treatment of specific diseases.

Human Services: Youth development and recreation, disaster relief, employment training/ placement, multipurpose agencies, and abuse prevention.

Religion: The Snee-Reinhardt Charitable Foundation recognizes the theological education and ecumenical programs as well as the mission of many churches, synagogues, and religious charities.

Miscellaneous: Because every grant cannot be included into a category, the Snee-Reinhardt Charitable Foundation permits grants for international/ethical services, sports, camps, economic development and the matching of gift programs as miscellaneous grants.
